hey all,

great time in DR, and didn’t even burn to a crisp which is a first…the Presidente’s are still as fine asever, along with the rum, did a bit of Montezumas revenge for a couple days, but cured that with a dinner trip to Tony Roma’s for a ribfest, that and a lot of cheese…

Would recommend that placed to anyone, it was very good, Smitty, you were right about the golf course, very nice with some great par 3’s..shot 90 so pretty happy as I finished 7-7-!!!! but what a great day, off the course by noon to avoid the heat!!!Bought 2 great Haittian rap CD’s from the guy in the cigar store, loads of Wyclef Jean and other Creole stuff, don’t understand a word, but love the music!! Tried to keep playing Scrabble, but was not my turn…

For our northern Alberta kids….it is a great way to give them a look at other perspectives worldwide on the same issues they can read about…

The technical term for these would be – they are the SHIZNIT!

How about a cross-post from apost I made to my school blog this morning.  If you want a copy of the editorial Friedman printed this morning, just ask, I printed it to pdf.  The NY Times is a subscription site…..

———————————————————————–

I read a column in the NY Times this morning by an author I have really enjoyed reading of late – Thomas Friedman (author of ‘The World is Flat’).  His plan, in short, is to stimulate both our economy now  BUT ALSO to rework the entire American economy by changing how students are prepared to enter the workforce after graduation.  Part of his plan is to cut federal income tax of teachers….that is hardly appealing……but it made me think that would hardly see society put more pressure on schools to produce different results……and could conceivably lead to the changes in the system I think need to happen….

Cheers

gretzky trades

January 10, 2009

in light of rays diligent trade reporting…i never even knew that gretz played for st. louis….

just to note…i had NO tv for the 8 years i spent in GFP

St. Louis Blues (1996)

On February 27, 1996, Gretzky joined the St. Louis Blues in a trade for Patrice Tardif, Roman Vopat, Craig Johnson, and two draft picks.[57] He partially orchestrated the trade after reports that he was unhappy in Los Angeles surfaced.[80] At the time of the trade, the Blues and New York Rangers emerged as front-runners, but the Blues met his salary demands.[81] Gretzky was immediately named the team’s captain. He scored 37 points in 31 games for the team in the regular season and the playoffs,[57] and the Blues came within one game of the Conference Finals.[82] However, the chemistry that everyone expected with winger Brett Hull never developed, and coach Mike Keenan publicly criticized him.[83] Gretzky rejected a three-year deal worth $15 million with the Blues, and on July 22, he signed with the New York Rangers as a free agent, rejoining longtime Oilers teammate Mark Messier for a two-year $8 million (plus incentives) contract.[84]
